Choose Built-in Music or Add Personal Tracks
Choose the built-in soundtrack through the radial menu’s Music Menu, which opens the cassette player. To play your own files, use the unofficial OTHRadio custom music mod with MelonLoader; the separately sold official soundtrack is a music download, not a custom-track importer.
Choose an Album and Control the Cassette Player
The cassette player contains 4 albums with 40 tracks. The album names are Happy Enchilada, Airglow, Dustlight and Field Of Dreams. Use the album selector to choose your soundtrack, then the song controls to move through the music.
- Open the radial menu with Q on keyboard, a right-stick press on an Xbox controller, or R3 on a PlayStation controller to reach its entries.
- Choose Music Menu from the radial menu to open the cassette player and its music controls.
- Select an album with the Up or Down arrow keys, or move the controller’s right stick up or down, to change the album selection.
- Use Play/Pause with E on keyboard, A on Xbox, or Cross on PlayStation to start or pause the music.
- Use the Right arrow key or move the controller’s right stick right to advance to the next song.
- Use the Left arrow key or move the controller’s right stick left to restart the current song.
Add Your Own Music With OTHRadio
OTHRadio provides personal-song playback through an unofficial modification. It requires MelonLoader and supports MP3, OGG, FLAC and WAV files. Its folder-opening and rescan options are the tools you use to add your music.
- Open the Custom Music Player page on Nexus Mods to get the OTHRadio mod.
- Set up MelonLoader for Over the Hill so OTHRadio has the loader it requires.
- Place the OTHRadio DLL in the game’s Mods folder to install the mod file.
- Use OTHRadio’s option to open its personal music folder, giving you the destination for your tracks.
- Copy your MP3, OGG, FLAC or WAV files into the personal music folder so they are ready to scan.
- Use OTHRadio’s rescan option to scan the music files you have added to that folder.
Keep the Mod File and Music Files Separate
The game’s Mods folder is the destination for OTHRadio’s DLL. Your audio files belong in the personal music folder opened through the mod. Use that folder-opening option when adding tracks, then rescan after copying them; this keeps the installation file and your music in their respective destinations.
What the Paid Soundtrack Gives You
| Option | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Built-in cassette player | Plays the game’s albums while you drive, with album selection and playback controls in Music Menu. |
| Personal tracks through OTHRadio | Adds personal-song playback through an unofficial MelonLoader mod, using its personal music folder and rescan option. |
| Official soundtrack download | A separately sold downloadable music product. Purchasing it does not provide a custom-track importer. |
Check Shortcuts and Music Volume
Music Menu has no dedicated default binding on keyboard or controller. Open it through the radial menu, or assign Music Menu a binding in the control settings for direct access. When assigning a new binding, Esc cancels the change.
If the cassette player is open but you cannot hear music, check its Play/Pause state and the audio settings. Music Volume and Master Volume both default to 100% and can be adjusted from 0% to 100%. Adjust those settings to suit your listening preference, and use the cassette player’s Play/Pause control when you want to stop or resume playback.
