Complete Windy Joe Trail

Complete Windy Joe Trail in Emerald Lake to unlock The Trail Burner in Over the Hill. The first-clear reward includes the Wagon-class vehicle and 25 Pebbles.

02

Begin at Pavilion Lake Cabin in Emerald Lake

Pavilion Lake Cabin is Emerald Lake's starting cabin. Emerald Lake is available from the start and belongs to The Valhallas - Canada. Use the cabin as your reference point while exploring for Windy Joe Trail's marker.

Reach cabins during your search to reveal nearby points of interest and unlock fast travel destinations. These stops also repair your vehicle and restore equipped tools. Work outward from familiar ground, checking the map as you discover more of the area.

Keep Windy Joe Trail's name in mind when choosing your destination. Hermit Trail, also in Emerald Lake, awards The Burro, while Elizabeth Oath Trail awards Kayaks and Kayaks (Bed). For The Trail Burner, your target is Windy Joe Trail.

03

Prepare your starter vehicle

The Ding, The Protector and The Trailrat are available from the start. Choose whichever you feel most comfortable driving for the approach. Familiar handling is a useful starting point when you are learning a route.

Visit the Mechanic to change vehicles, buy upgrades and choose your equipped tools. Cabins replenish equipped tools, so use a cabin stop to restore supplies before committing to the attempt. Pick recovery equipment around the problems you tend to encounter, such as getting stuck or overturning.

Spend against a difficulty you have actually encountered rather than upgrading every part before leaving. If an approach feels awkward, pause and reconsider your line. A careful attempt will teach you more about what you need than rushing into another obstacle.

Find the marker and finish the checkpoints

  1. Open the map at Pavilion Lake Cabin to orient yourself in Emerald Lake. The default map control is M on keyboard, View on an Xbox controller or Create on a PlayStation controller.
  2. Reach cabins as you explore outward to reveal nearby points of interest. Each discovered cabin gives you a fast travel destination to use when planning another approach.
  3. Locate Windy Joe Trail's marker during your Emerald Lake exploration. Make this named trail your destination so your attempt leads toward The Trail Burner unlock.
  4. Follow Windy Joe Trail's checkpoints along the route. There are 11 checkpoints across approximately 809 metres, with 123 metres of ascent, so take time to assess the ground ahead.
  5. Continue to the final reward trigger to complete the trail and unlock The Trail Burner. Reaching the finish is the objective to work toward throughout the attempt.
  6. Select The Trail Burner at the Mechanic after the unlock. The Mechanic lets you change vehicles, giving you a way to take your new reward out for a drive.
05

Handle traction problems during the attempt

Use Low Range when your vehicle struggles uphill or on rough terrain, then return to High Range on regular ground. The default Engage 4L/4H control is Tab on keyboard, X on an Xbox controller or Square on a PlayStation controller. Reassess your approach before repeatedly forcing the same obstacle.

If you become stuck, look for a suitable winch anchor such as a tree. The quick winch selects the object closest to the center of the camera. For more precise control, use the manual winch to select an attachment point on your vehicle and then the intended anchor.

If recovery tools cannot free you, selecting a discovered cabin on the map provides a respawn option. Use that fallback to recover from an unsuccessful outing. Before setting out again, reconsider the equipment and approach that gave you trouble.
