Unlock The Marshal at Shabah Ascent
Complete Shabah Ascent in Tassili n'Ajjer Desert, Algeria's starting area, to unlock The Marshal in Over the Hill. The challenge awards the vehicle and a one-time reward of 40 Pebbles.
Tassili n'Ajjer Desert is available from the start, so you can pursue this Expedition-class vehicle without opening Aurès Mountains. Shabah Ascent also awards 8 Pebbles on every completion, including the first. The vehicle unlock does not repeat.
Find the Challenge and Claim the Vehicle
- Head into Tassili n'Ajjer Desert in Algeria to reach the area containing Shabah Ascent. Porte du Désert Camp is the area's starting cabin.
- Visit cabins during your search to reveal nearby points of interest and establish fast travel stops. These visits also repair your vehicle and restore equipped tools.
- Locate Shabah Ascent in Tassili n'Ajjer Desert. This is the named challenge trail that awards The Marshal.
- Complete Shabah Ascent to unlock The Marshal and earn the trail's one-time reward of 40 Pebbles.
- Select The Marshal at the Mechanic after unlocking it. You can change vehicles there and adjust your new vehicle's upgrades, customization and equipped tools.
Prepare Your Current Vehicle for the Ascent
If your current vehicle struggles on slopes or rough ground, engage Low Range for more traction. The default Engage 4L/4H control is Tab on keyboard, X on an Xbox controller and Square on a PlayStation controller. Switch back to High Range on regular terrain to gain speed.
Before another attempt, return to a discovered cabin if your vehicle needs repairs or your equipped tools need restoring. A cabin gives you a place to prepare before setting out again. Use that pause to reconsider any approach that repeatedly leaves you stuck.
The Marshal vs Das Mammoth
| Option | Details |
|---|---|
| The Marshal | Expedition class. Complete Shabah Ascent in Tassili n'Ajjer Desert, Algeria's first area. It has no cargo bed. |
| Das Mammoth | Expedition class. Complete Lower Midgar Trail in Asgard Mountain, Canada's third area. It has a cargo bed. |
Both vehicles weigh 3,200 kg and have a base speed limit of 19.8 km/h. They also share 51,000 N of winch pull, 0.52-metre wheels and 0.70-metre suspension travel. Access and cargo layout are therefore useful starting points when choosing between them.
Choose The Marshal if you want to pursue an Expedition unlock in an area already open to you. Choose Das Mammoth if having a cargo bed matters to your preference. Before investing heavily, try the vehicle you unlock and decide whether you enjoy driving it.
Chassis, Brakes, Steering and Grip
The Marshal has 4,000 Nm of brake torque and a maximum steering angle of 28°. Its gearbox has 2 gears, and its center differential ratio is 1. Give yourself room to line up for tight turns rather than relying on a late steering correction.
Its forward grip value is 1.30, while cornering grip is 1.27. On your first outing, use controlled approaches to obstacles and pay attention to where progress breaks down. That helps you decide whether to spend on tire grip, suspension height or recovery options.
Engine Tiers and Upgrade Prices
| Engine tier | Performance |
|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 200 Nm peak torque; 650 idle RPM; 2,350 peak RPM; 4,500 maximum RPM. |
| Tier 2 | 227 Nm peak torque; 650 idle RPM; 2,350 peak RPM; 4,500 maximum RPM. |
| Tier 3 | 256 Nm peak torque; 650 idle RPM; 2,350 peak RPM; 4,500 maximum RPM. |
Engine Stage 2 costs 25 Pebbles, and Engine Stage 3 costs 50 Pebbles. Buy the stages in order, since each requires the preceding stage on that vehicle. Engine upgrades increase power and raise top speed.
Choose Upgrades Around Your Next Trip
- Tires Stage 2 and Tires Stage 3 increase tire grip. Consider them when traction is the recurring obstacle on the routes you want to drive.
- Suspension Level 2 and Suspension Level 3 increase suspension height. Consider this path when clearance is the problem you want to address.
- Winch Stage 2, Winch Stage 3 and Winch Stage 4 extend winch range. Prioritize range when useful anchors repeatedly sit beyond your reach.
- Tool slot upgrades let you carry more tools. Choose them when you want a more varied equipment loadout for the problems you encounter.
- Protection Stage 2 and Protection Stage 3 increase damage resistance. Consider protection if damage repeatedly interrupts your trips.
- Water Resistance 2 and Water Resistance 3 increase the water depth and time the engine can withstand before flooding. Consider them for outings where water is a recurring concern.
Taking The Marshal from stock to its maximum performance-upgrade stages costs 675 Pebbles. Upgrades belong to the individual vehicle, so budget for The Marshal separately from the rest of your garage. You can build toward that total gradually as you decide which improvements you need.
Customize The Marshal at the Mechanic
Regular liveries are free at the Mechanic, where you can also customize the vehicle and choose equipped tools. Pick your appearance and equipment there after unlocking The Marshal. If special liveries are your next goal, remember that their distance requirements are tied to driving the relevant vehicle.
