How to unlock and equip paint jobs
Choose your vehicle at the Mechanic, open its livery selection, and equip an available regular paint or an earned special livery. Regular liveries are free; special liveries unlock by driving the required distance in that specific vehicle.
Start by deciding which car you want to repaint. Special-livery mileage requirements belong to the selected vehicle, and available special types vary between cars. Player-made paints use the separate Livery Mods interface.
Change your paint at the Mechanic
- Visit the Mechanic to customize your vehicle. You can also select the Mechanic's icon on the area map to use it as a respawn point.
- Select the car whose paint you want to change. If you are working toward a special design, make sure you are checking the mileage requirement for that same car.
- Open the vehicle's livery selection and equip an available regular paint or an earned special livery. Regular liveries are free at the Mechanic, so you can choose an available color immediately.
- To earn another special livery, drive that vehicle until you reach the design's mileage requirement. Return to the Mechanic and open the same vehicle's livery selection to equip the earned paint.

Make your driving distance count
Special-livery distance counts while at least one wheel touches the ground and is recorded in steps of 50 m. For a mileage run, choose a route where you can keep driving steadily. Check the selected vehicle's odometer at the Mechanic when comparing your progress with its next target.
Try combining your paint goal with an outing you already want to make. Pick the target vehicle before leaving and use a familiar route if your main aim is mileage. Keep a note of the car and special type you are pursuing so you can check the correct requirement afterward.
Check the odometer before repeating a long drive
- Check which vehicle you drove and which vehicle's paint you are trying to unlock. Special liveries require qualifying distance in the specific car associated with the design.
- Read the odometer as kilometers. On the older display, the final digit represents tenths: 0199 means 19.9 km. The October 19 update adds a decimal separator to make the reading clearer.
- Compare that reading with the exact special type you want, then recheck the vehicle's livery selection. Remember that qualifying distance requires at least one wheel on the ground and is counted in steps of 50 m.
- If the paint remains locked after those checks, record the vehicle, livery type and displayed mileage before reporting the problem. Include a picture of the reading and locked design to make the issue easier to explain.
What the cosmetic-related updates change
For a locked special livery, keep checking the vehicle-specific mileage requirement. The update did not announce a blanket change to those requirements. If the problem concerns a downloaded player-made paint, check the separate Livery Mods interface when investigating its availability.
